Birthday Dinner and Tolling Ceremony
13 APRIL 2018

The meeting was called to order at 1800 by Cmdr., Tim Barker.
Welcome to all by Tim Barker.
There were 36 members and guests present.
Sharon Lloyd gave an update on those members we have lost and those that are sick.
Below is Sharon’s report:
? 3/11 - Sent sympathy card to George Petershagen in honor of his mother.
? 3/18 – Sent sympathy card to Bruce Rinehart family
? 3/25 – Sent sympathy card to Gerri Palmer in honor of her husband John.
? 4/13 – Walt Fleak doing well after total knee replacement surgery. Doing therapy now.
? Russell Shaeffer 2 or 3 days ago had a setback. Medication possibly causing the problem. Has problem with congestive heart failure.
? Bob McDaniel lost part of lower left lung and doing well as long as he doesn’t do much.
? Bill Wright doing amino therapy on throat. Still has feeding tube.
? Jim Tolson mentioned that Bob McDaniel does receive text if anyone would like to send Bob a text.

Jim “Clutch” Koogler introduced his guest, his wife Bonnie Koogler and grandson Austin Prior.

Cdr. James Prouty introduced his guest Lilliam Bullock and Richard Moore.

Bill Foreman introduced his wife Ruth Foreman and guest George and Bonnie Spurling.

Jim Tolson introduced Gene and Mary Ann Tambellini who were attending for Bob McDonald

A delicious meal of pot roast, chicken alfredo, tossed salad, maple glazed carrots twice baked potatoes, bread that was supplied by Sharon Lloyd, and Submarine birthday cake was served.

After the meal the base conducted the complete Tolling Ceremony.

The ceremony began with COB John Bethea leading the salute to the flag and the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner lead
by Udo Maroscher.

Jim “Clutch” Koogler read the names of the subs that have been lost,
Galin Brady worked the board showing where each sub was lost,
Bob Frier rang the bell for each sub, and
Jim Tolson ran the power point presentation.

After all the boats had been mentioned Clutch read the names of the base members that have departed on Eternal Patrol. At the end of the tolling

Udo Maroscher sang Eternal Father, Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn) and Tim played a recording of Scottish bagpipes performing Amazing Grace.

Commander Tim Barker won the 50/50.

Next Columbus Base meeting is May 4th at the American Legion Leasure-Blackston Post 239,
700 Morning Street, Worthington, OH 43085.

Thanks to everyone who helped with planning and setting up for another great Tolling

Closing prayer (Benediction) was given by Sharon Lloyd.

The meeting was adjourned and everyone pitched in for cleanup.
