Join us in honoring the crews and builders of the 28 Manitowoc-built submarines! The next 28 Boat Reunion will be held May 1 4, 2008 in conjunction with our annual USS LAGARTO Remembrance Day Ceremony. The 28 Boat Reunion will offer a chance to visit with shipmates or co-workers, tour the old Manitowoc Shipbuilding peninsula, and honor the brave crews of the four Manitowoc-built submarines still on eternal patrol.

The festivities will begin on Thursday May 1st. Early arrivers can be the first to join the Manitowoc Maritime History Bus Tour. Led by USS JALLAO crew member Jerry Pilger, this bus tour will visit some historic maritime sites in Manitowoc featuring the World War II era sites of Custerdale and the location of the former Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company. (Two more bus trips will be offered on Friday.) Later Thursday evening, diesel boat vets can travel back in time by spending the night aboard USS COBIA.

Friday will be a day of reminiscing and sharing. Local high school students will be here Friday morning to capture memories for a documentary project and in the afternoon you can share your stories during roundtable discussions. The day will conclude with an evening reception for submariners, shipyard workers, and their families.

On Saturday, we will honor the crew of USS LAGARTO on the 63rd anniversary of its loss. The Remembrance Ceremony will also honor the crews of LAGARTO s sister subs USS ROBALO, USS GOLET, and USS KETE still on eternal patrol.
